Intensive Classroom and Home-based Services
Washburn has a range of home-based and center-based services designed to help children with more serious mental health difficulties be successful in school and at home.
Day Treatment
Children with severe emotional and behavioral problems often struggle to make friends and succeed in school. The Day Treatment Program is an intensive program to help children ages 3 through 9 develop the social, emotional and behavioral skills to be more successful in school and at home. Comprehensive services are provided, including group and family therapy and psychiatric services as needed. This service is available at Washburn's offices in Minneapolis. Children continue to attend their community school or preschool for half of each day. Day Treatment staff offers pre- and after-care services and collaborates closely with the child's teachers and parents to ensure the ongoing success of the child.
Washburn recently published a training manual on the Developmental Repair model used in the agency's Day Treatment program. The manual explores an intensive treatment model for working with young children who have experienced complex trauma and have aggressive and disruptive symptoms. View the manual online or download the manual for printing.
In-home therapy
The Home Front Program provides in-home therapy for families whose children are at risk of being removed from their homes due to severe emotional and behavioral difficulties. These children, ages 5 to 17, have significant problems at home, in school and in the community. Services are provided directly in the home with families to improve family functioning and help children develop life skills that will enable them to live successfully at home and in the community. Washburn's staff consults with school staff and other agencies involved with the family to coordinate services and identify other needs and resources.
Crisis Stabilization
The Crisis Stabilization Program is a 4 to 6 week intensive intervention for children or adolescents and their families. It is designed to help the child stay in their home and avoid psychiatric hospitalization or other out-of-home placements. Therapeutic services are combined with parenting support and “wraparound services," bringing together key people in an adolescent's life (i.e. teachers, social workers, etc.) to work together, identify needs and develop strategies. These services are delivered with a high level of face-to-face and phone contact, as well as a 24-hour on call service. This service is available for Minnesota Medica, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and Health Partners members in the metro area.
Case Management
Services provided through the Case Management Program are designed to help families access and coordinate care for children with severe emotional disturbances. This includes mental health, social, educational, health, vocational and recreational. Services in the areas of advocacy, volunteer services, transportation, and legal services to help improve the child's functioning.
