Preschool and Early Childhood Services
Washburn’s early childhood services for infants, toddlers and
preschoolers are provided in child cares, preschool centers, and in
homes.
Outreach Consultation for Parents, Children Care Centers and Kindergartens
Some toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarteners struggle with the
rules and structure of a childcare classroom. Emotional, behavioral, or
developmental questions and concerns can be challenging and stressful
for teachers and parents. The Early Childhood Outreach program provides
free training and consultation to childcare providers and parents
throughout Hennepin County. The services help the child remain in the
day care when possible, or identify a more appropriate setting if
necessary. Staff also works with providers and parents so they can
better respond to each child's individual needs.

Family Focused Support for Young Children
The Family Focused Program serves families with children from age birth to kindergarten who are having social, emotional or behavioral difficulties and/or experiencing environmental stressors. The program offers an intensive combination of in-home family therapy, a therapeutic preschool classroom for children, as well as periodic parent groups. The program is designed to strengthen the parent/child relationship while supporting children’s social, emotional and behavioral functioning across all areas of development.
Washburn's Family Focused program was awarded accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals – in 2011. The program is free to qualifying families in Hennepin County.
