Development Insights and Screening

Is your child ready to leap into Kindergarten?

Heading into that first “official” school year is a major life milestone for kids — and caregivers. If you’re looking for insights to boost your confidence, our psychologists can help you get the information to assess what’s right for your child’s development. With testing and insights, you’ll have a deeper understanding of your child’s readiness to move into more formal learning and the school experience.

This assessment includes a clinical interview/developmental history and a standardized behavioral questionnaire(s) completed by caregiver(s) and a teacher (if available), and data obtained through a comprehensive cognitive assessment with the child.

This screening is reassuring if you’re looking for insight on whether your child is ready for the demands of school. You’ll learn more about their cognitive and learning strengths, social and emotional skills, and progress against general development.

This screening is only available as a private pay service. Call (612) 400-6395 for more information about scheduling and your options.

Super-charge your parenting with cognitive screening.

Every day, you witness how your child is growing. And, it’s natural to have questions about what’s next and what’s going on inside their brain.

That’s why here at Washburn Center, we created a unique set of screenings and proactive checkpoints for caregivers. At every stage of development, our psychologist can help you better understand the options and next steps to boost your child’s growth.

You’ll discover new insights about your child’s decision-making , problem-solving and skills. It’s the smartest way to prepare you and your child for the next stages of academic and social growth.

This proactive check will help you clearly see how your child is learning, thinking and relating. In everyday language, you’ll have a roadmap that honors their gifts and talents and gives tangible next steps to build on their potential. Your child will be hopeful when they hear us sharing strengths and how their skills stand out.

The screening appointment with the child covers cognitive skills including verbal comprehension, visual spatial, working memory, fluid reasoning and processing speed. Caregivers will participate in a clinical interview, provide developmental history and complete a standardized behavioral questionnaire. If approved by the caregiver, teachers can also provide information.

This package is only available as a private pay service. Call (612) 400-6395 for more information about Cognitive and Developmental screenings.

Washburn Center is taking referrals from caregivers and referring professionals for developmental screenings and kindergarten preparedness checks. We are also able to assess for a variety of concerns, including ADHD and ASD.

Children use behavior to communicate what’s going on beneath the surface – their reaction to the world around them and their perception of how that world sees them. With psychological testing, caregivers gain insights and a deeper understanding of what’s happening in a child’s mind and emotions; and importantly, what’s needed to support them in navigating life given their unique strengths and challenges.

What to expect when your child works with our psychologists. They will experience a variety of tests and assessment methods that help our psychologists observe, explore, and measure your child’s thoughts, perceptions, feelings, and behaviors. The psychological testing process can give you clarity about underlying causes of symptoms. Your results inform treatment services and goals, and ultimately help drive a better understanding, acceptance, and outcomes for your child’s mental wellbeing.

Call 612-400-6395 for scheduling and next steps.

Is your child experiencing challenges at home, school or in other learning settings?

As your child develops, you’re likely seeing how they adapt to school, experiences and learning. There are times when you know: something doesn’t feel right.

This is a valuable assessment when you’re looking for insights for your child’s decision-making , problem-solving and skills — simply trying to understand how your child is learning and developing. You’ll gain insights on how your child is thinking, learning and relating.

Our psychologists will help measure your child’s cognitive skills and generate a profile of strengths and areas of difficulty that help better understand areas that may need extra support. Through testing, our team can help you assess your child’s development, areas that challenge them, processing capabilities and how to better support them.

This assessment evaluates cognitive skills including verbal comprehension, visual spatial, working memory, fluid reasoning and processing speed. This assessment will also measure your child’s skills, including comprehensive listening, speaking, reading, writing and math skills.

Together, this information can help clarify any learning challenges. This assessment includes a clinical interview/developmental history and a standardized behavioral questionnaire(s) completed by the child’s caregiver(s) and teacher(s), and data obtained through comprehensive cognitive and achievement testing with the child.

This psychological testing package is only available as a private pay service. Call (612) 400-6395 for more information about Cognitive and Developmental Testing options.

Is psychological testing covered by my insurance?

Some insurance plans will cover psychological testing for mental health diagnosis.

The standalone test packages (Kindergarten Readiness, Cognitive and Cognitive/learning disability) are not among those. These 3 packages are private pay only.

If you are seeking psychological testing for another reason, a prior authorization by your insurance company might be required.
